You Should Never Wear Shorts On An Airplane

One of the safest ways to travel is by air, but while on the plane, there are some dangers to beware of. There could be issues with the coffee, with where you put your phone, with taking off your shoes, and with when you board, and now it turns out that what you wear on a plane could be putting you at risk for injury.

A flight attendant-in-training from Spain learned something shocking during a recent course and shared it on TikTok. According to her, wearing shorts on a plane is downright dangerous. What she explains in her video translates to:

"Never go on a plane in shorts. I used to wear shorts and even sandals, but I'm not going to do that anymore. I'm doing a course to become a flight attendant and I learned something today that I didn't know. If there's an emergency and an evacuation has to be done, inflatable slides come out from doors and some windows of the plane which inflate at the moment and all passengers have to jump off. With the speed at which you're sliding down, you get burned. I mean, it literally burns your entire leg if you're not wearing long pants. Obviously we hope that no emergency happens, but just in case, I would wear long trousers, socks and closed shoes."

Commenters were grateful for the tip, but quite a few noted that if they had just survived a plane crash, some burns wouldn't be too big of a deal. One said, "If the plane's going down, the last thing I care about is my leg getting burned," while another stated, "I don't usually board thinking the plane's going to crash and I'll have to evacuate urgently." Of course, in some occurrences, the slide might still be needed after a safe landing, so it probably is best to heed the TikToker's advice.
